MAINJ-sponsored students in Egypt, Jordan free from Daish activities

State Religious Committee chairman Abdul Mutalip Abdul Rahim said two special officers always monitored the activities of the students who were sponsored by the Johor State Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ).

He said legal action would be taken against students involved in Daish activities and their sponsorships would be terminated.

"To date, no student sponsored by the state is involved with IS (Islamic State or Daish) (whether) in Al-Azhar, Egypt or in Jordan.

"We have more than 1,000 students there. My advice is, focus on education and don't let down the trust to oneself, to god and the prophet, family and the Johor race..Indeed, we will take legal action (if one is found involved) and we stop (aid or sponsorship)," said Mutalip to reporters here, today.

Earlier, he attended a function to deliver a message and to hand over contributions to students from Johor who were furthering their studies to Egypt and Jordan (2016/2017) at the Sultan Ismail Building, Iskandar Puteri here.

Also present at the ceremony were MAINJ adviser Datuk Nooh Gadut, MAINJ chief executive officer Md Rofiki Shamsudin and Johor state Mufti Mohd Tahrir Shamsudin.

For the 2016/2017 session, 70 students were given aid via tithe collections with flight sponsorship worth RM278,600 and a consolation of RM1,000 each.
