MAIPP ordered to investigate banner showing mosque and liquor
The Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAIPP) has been ordered to immediately investigate the issue on a banner which showed the picture of a mosque together with liquor hung at an entertainment centre in the state.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said this was to determine the actual situation on the issue besides avoiding a repeat of such a religious provocation.
"We call on MAIPP to investigate such a case because we don't want any more issues involving religious sensitivity to crop up," he told reporters when asked to comment on the issue, in the capital, Thursday.
According to a media report, an entertainment centre in Penang Road, Penang had put up a banner with the background showing a mosque and the wordings, 'Selamat Hari Raya & Merdeka, Spend Up RM150 to have a chance to win: 2 bottles Champange, 1 bottle of Martell, 1 carton Tiger, 2 buckets Tiger', beginning Aug 7 to 31.
Jamil Khir had earlier attended a gathering in conjunction with the retirement of the Director of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department Director (JAWI) Datuk Che Mat Che Ali who officially retired on Aug 6.
