CAR
Make a while guess, which electric car do the Koreans support most?
To those who don’t know, Renaults are sold in South Korea as the Renault Samsung Motors, so if you were to walk down the streets of MyeongDong or NamDaeMun and spot a Renault Fluence, don’t be surprise to see a different logo on the front.
Like everywhere in the world Renault is focussed on their Electric Vehicles (EV). RSM also has their version of the EV known as the SM3 Z.E. introduced back in November 2013. And as of 2015, the company is happy to report that they’ve sold a total of 1767 units among which 1043 units were sold in 2015.
RSM has been working hard to encourage the use of EVs in South Korea, they’ve placed EV pilots in 16 cities to reinforce the after-sales network for EVs and expanded EV after sales centres to 226 locations. They’ve also established a battery repair centre in Jeju Island.
The SM3 Z.E. is the country’s only mid-sized 100 per cent EV and is known to have the capability of running up to 135km with a single charge. In 2015, the model was chosen as both Korea’s official government vehicle and Seoul EV taxi.
This year, RSM has already provided more than 100 EV taxis and introduced a taxi battery management service in Jeju Island while additional mid-speed chargers near taxi garages and drivers’ cafeterias has been set up as well.
Hopefully, Malaysia will also head towards the same direction as Seoul in the near future, first off, more charging stations please!
