Makkah tragedy: Fifth Malaysian haj pilgrim confirmed dead

Another Malaysian haj pilgrim has been confirmed dead following the crane collapse tragedy in Masjid al-Haram in Makkah last Friday.

In a statement this morning, Tabung Haji confirmed the fifth and latest casualty as Zainun Taha, 69, from Maktab 90 Al Wafideen who hailed from Ampang, Selangor.

The victim’s body was identified by her next-of-kin in Makkah.

Zainun was among the eight Malaysians who were initially reported missing.

Since then, four others have been confirmed dead – Rusiah Suar, 56, from Felda Besout 2, Perak; Siti Nuroshlizan Zolkifli, 37, from Tanah Merah, Kelantan; Rohana Ismail, 54, from Kuala Krai, Kelantan; and Munah Jusoh, 73, from Cherang Ruku, Kelantan.

Abdul Muluk Ishak, who was also among those reported missing, had been confirmed safe.

The 71-year-old from Pantai Remis, Perak was actually nowhere near the Grand Mosque when the tragedy happened. Instead, he was at a hostel for Thai haj pilgrims.

To date, two more Malaysians are still missing – Shahidan Saad, 52, from Kodiang, Kedah and Abdul Habib Lahman, 68, from Sik, Kedah.
