Malacca cops target 51,429 traffic offenders
The Malacca police are in the midst of tracking down 51,429 traffic offenders who have been issued with arrest warrants between 2011 and last month.
State traffic staff officer DSP Mohd Sham Abdullah said the warrants were for 15,065 people in Melaka Tengah, 21,003 (Alor Gajah) and 15,361 (Jasin).
"Earlier, traffic offenders were given the summons letters which they acknowledged upon receiving, by signing them. However, they have yet to clear the summonses," he said.
Mohd Sham said this after carrying out an Ops Cantas Khas Trafik in Lebuh Alor AMJ (Gajah-Melaka-Jasin) near the Simpang Ampat toll plaza here, Wednesday.
At a roadblock, a truck driver in his 30s who was found to have an arrest warrant was taken to the Alor Gajah police headquarters for further action.
Another man in his 20s was arrested when he tested positive for drugs, while a 24-year-old man was given a warrant of arrest at his home in Taman Sri Nanings.
Meanwhile, Mohd Sham said 25 people issued with arrest warrants were detained at roadblocks, beginning Monday.
