Malay parties will split into minority parties - Tun Mahathir
Dr Mahathir admitted that he has many formulae to fix the broken UMNO but added that not many would agree to them.
LANGKAWI: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the parties representing the Malays are now minority parties.
Speaking to the media here, Dr Mahathir said that for as long as the Malay parties do not unite, it will result in the parties relying on each other to win.
Commenting further on his reported intention to return to UMNO, he stated that the party is now broken.
However, he admitted that he has many formulae to overcome the matter but added not many would agree to them.
“At that time, people asked me on joining UMNO, but in fact, UMNO is now dirty.
“So, it is not possible to return to UMNO in such a dirty state, but if UMNO people want to leave and come in with us, we can work together.
"People keep talking about Malay unity, this will not happen as each has their own plans.
"So, each of us does not want to cooperate... we have become a minority, (that is) only small parties (and) have to depend on other people to win," he said.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Dr Mahathir said he was ready to return to the UMNO fold if the party went back to its original policy of fighting for religion, race and country.
"I can return to UMNO but with all the 'rogues' in the party, I cannot work with them," he said.
