During his address at the ASEAN-US Summit, Anwar emphasised key areas of cooperation and Malaysia's commitment to fostering peace in conflict zones.
"Malaysia is prepared to work closely with both ASEAN and the US to resolve outstanding issues that could facilitate the United States' signing and ratification of the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Protocol. The SEANWFZ is a vital component of regional security, aimed at promoting a nuclear-free Southeast Asia," he said in a statement at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits here Friday.
Anwar said Malaysia is ready to collaborate on capacity-building programmes to enhance human capital, particularly in sectors such as green technology, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development.
He stressed that such cooperation is essential for addressing the pressing environmental challenges in the region while promoting economic growth.
Meanwhile, Anwar said Malaysia supports the international community's demand for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and Lebanon.
"It is crucial that all parties involved avoid actions that could worsen the already tense situation," he added.
In line with Malaysia's commitment to peace, Anwar reiterated the nation's support for the implementation of a three-phase plan aimed at achieving peace in Gaza.
He urged the swift adoption of the plan without additional conditions to ensure long-term stability in the Middle East.
Anwar's remarks come as ASEAN and the United States continue to strengthen ties, focusing on critical areas such as security, human capital development, and environmental sustainability.
