Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today Malaysia is keeping to the schedule to achieve developed-nation status in 2020, and that the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) concept he introduced is to chart the direction after 2020.
The Prime Minister said the country was definitely headed towards becoming a high-income nation.
"As we are nearing 2020, Malaysia needs a new platform to continue striving to develop the country.
"We are surely not going to start planning in 2020. We have to start now," he said in a post on his official blog, najibrazak.com.
Najib said that by 2020, many programmes and plans such as the 11th Malaysia Plan and the National Transformation Policy would have been implemented in the effort to achieve developed-nation status.
Najib said TN50 would begin by engaging with the new generation that would be led by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.
"I wish to invite the young generation to join me in planning the nation's future.
"I am convinced that our young people have many ideas and much energy to carry on the struggle to make Malaysia a progressive and competitive nation," he said.
When tabling Budget 2017 in the Dewan Rakyat in October, Najib tabled TN50 that encompasses a work process over three decades in shaping the direction of the country up to 2050.
In 2010, Najib introduced the National Transformation Policy for the period 2011 to 2020 as the basis of government sectoral transformation that includes the Government Transformation Programme, Economic Transformation Programme and the New Economic Model. - BERNAMA
