Malaysia does not need other bodies to take the role of the police - Ahmad Zahid
Ahmad Zahidi said the police should not be selective in enforcing the law. - Ahmad Zahid
Malaysia does not need other organisations to take over the role of the security team in the country, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
As such, he said, the police should not be selective in enforcing the law.
"I have said that security is under the jurisdiction of the federal government. Indeed, we need the assistance of non-governmental organisations, residents' associations, but do not be rude by setting up an association without (first) referring to the Home Ministry," he added.
He said this in response to the setting up of the Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) in Penang. The police, he said, respected the power vested in the state government which was elected by the people, but action would be taken against them if they violated the law.
"We, PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police), are loyal to the government of the day so long as they do not violate the law, but if the laws are breached, more so by parliamentary members, Chief Minister, assemblymen or members of the public, action will be taken," he said when opening the Bukit Bendera Umno divisional delegates meeting here.
On the arrest of the PPS members, Ahmad Zahid said stern action would be taken against 11 of them who were found to have previous records.
