KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia today recorded a total of 15,902 new coronavirus cases, the highest number of daily infections logged since the beginning of the pandemic.
This brings the overall total number of cases in the country to 996,393.
Almost 10,000 infections were detected in Klang Valley within the last 24-hours, as Selangor reported 7,351 infections, while Kuala Lumpur had 2,406 cases.
Meanwhile, Kedah logged 867 new cases, followed by Johor (804), Sabah (712), Melaka (631), Negeri Sembilan (625), Penang (505) and Kelantan (502).
The COVID-19 cases in Perak soared to 469, while Pahang registered 406 infections, followed by Terengganu (267), Sarawak (261), Putrajaya (59), Labuan (30) and Perlis (7).
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported 184 new deaths, raising the death toll to 7,902.
According to the data from MOH, a total of 9,471 new recoveries were recorded, which brings 834,858 patients having recovered and discharged so far.
Nearly all of Malaysia has been in a lockdown since May 12 this year, but the daily COVID-19 cases and deaths have increased during the lockdown.
There are currently 153,633 active cases remaining which are receiving treatment.
In Saturday's figures, 950 are in ICU while 468 require respiratory support.
Out of the 15,902 new cases today, 25 are imported while 15,877 are transmitted locally.
