Malaysia hopes appointment of interim President will restore Egypt's smooth democratic transition
The Foreign Affairs Ministry hopes the appointment of the new interim President of Egypt will pave the way for the restoration and renewal of the country's smooth democratic transition.
"Malaysia urges that all parties will move towards achieving peaceful solution and to refrain from violence.
"It is important that the current crisis to be resolved peacefully and through democratic process to elect the new legitimate leadership and a swift return of the civilian-led government in accordance with the aspiration of all Egyptians.
"Malaysia believes that the long-lasting political solution will help Egypt to achieve peace, progress and stability," said the ministry in a statement Friday morning.
The Egyptian military announced a roadmap that includes the suspension of the constitution and appointment of the country's top judge Adly Mansour as interim president with a vague mandate ahead of new elections.
