Malaysia, Indonesian marine police cooperation against cross-border crime
Security in the Malaysian and Indonesian waters will also be tightened by increasing joint border patrols between the two neighbouring countries.
Malaysia's Marine police and its Indonesian counterpart, Polair will strengthen their cooperation to combat cross border crime.
Bukit Aman Marine police commander Datuk Abd Aziz Yusuf said the cooperation would be in communication through exchange of relevant information.
"Aside from that, we will also step up security in the Malaysian and Indonesian waters by increasing our joint border patrols.
"With such close cooperation, the rate of border crimes such as drug smuggling, human trafficking and piracy can be controlled and prevented effectively," he told reporters here today.
The media conference was held in conjunction with a Border Coordination Meeting between the two authorities.
Also present was Polair Security Maintenance Agency (Baharkam) director Brigadier General Drs Muhammad Chairol Noor Alamsyah.
