KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registers a total of 27,004 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the cumulative total to 3,927,437 cases since the pandemic hit the country.

Of the total, 26,285 cases involved local infections, while 719 were imported cases.

Earlier today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported on the breakdown of categories out of the total number of new cases:

category 1: 11,163 cases (41.34%);

category 2: 15,642 cases (57.92%);

category 3: 63 cases (0.23%);

category 4: 72 cases (0.27%) 

category 5: 64 cases (0.24%).

Dr Noor Hisham further explained that 51 cases (25.63%) from the 199 COVID-19 cases of categories 3, 4 and 5 were not vaccinated or yet to complete the vaccine doses, 82 cases (41.21%) had received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine but had not received a booster dose, 66 cases (33.17%) had received a booster dose, 95 cases (47.74%) aged 60 years and above and 105 cases (52.76 %) have comorbidities.

MOH also said that nine new clusters were identified, with 340 clusters still active.

The country lost another 86 people to the infection, including 35 that was classified as Brought-in-Dead (BID)

According to the data on the COVIDNOW website, a total of 373 patients were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with 225 of them requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, about 29,450 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries in Malaysia to 3,596,453.
