PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia participated in the open-ended Extraordinary Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Executive Committee at the level of Permanent Representative in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement said the meeting was chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its capacity as the Chair of OIC Islamic Summit and was attended by the Secretary-General of OIC and other OIC member states.
It said OIC adopted a final communique as an outcome of the meeting where the document among others, reiterated the centrality of the cause of Palestine for the entire Islamic Ummah and calls for effective measures and intensified coordination by the international community to address the conflict.
"It also calls on OIC member states and Islamic groups to work at the international forums in providing international protection for the Palestinian people," the statement said.
The statement said that the OIC member states spoke in one clear voice in expressing their strong support to the plight of Palestinians, while condemning in the strongest term the recent Israeli aggression at Al-Aqsa Mosque especially during the month of Ramadan.
On April 15, at least 153 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli soldiers who raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound after dawn prayers.
The incident drew strong reaction from Palestinians who clashed with the soldiers and called on Islamic nations to safeguard the mosque.
