Malaysia records nearly 3,000 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's new COVID-19 infections jumped to 2,932 as of midnight Tuesday (July 5), taking the overall total to 4,578,741 cases.

Of the 2,932 cases, two are imported cases while 2,930 are local.

Active infections stood at 30,019, up 11.1 per cent compared to 14 days ago.

Selangor takes back it's seat in the lead as new COVID-19 cases reached 959 yesterday, followed by Kuala Lumpur (947), Perak (194), Negeri Sembilan (176), Sabah (143) and Penang (107).

Other states that hit a two-digit mark were Kedah (67), Putrajaya (61), Johor (57), Sarawak (54), Pahang (51), Malacca (42), Kelantan (30), Terengganu (18), Labuan (16) and Perlis (10).

The data from COVIDNOW portal showed a total of 2,292 recoveries were recorded on Tuesday, which brings the total number of active cases in the country to 30,019.

There were 1,238 COVID-19 patients who were hospitalised yesterday, with 42 of them in the intensive care unit (ICU), while 25 of them require breathing assistance.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported three COVID-related deaths from Selangor (2) and Pahang (1) accordingly, with one confirmed as brought-in- dead.

The country has lost a total of 35,787 people to the virus since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
