ASHGABAT: The agreements concluded between Malaysia and Turkmenistan reflect a shared commitment to long-term cooperation that extends beyond immediate commercial interests.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said both governments have demonstrated their readiness to work closely together as strategic partners, particularly in the development of Turkmenistan’s hydrocarbon resources.

“Let us work together and be an example to countries of the Global South on what collaboration actually means,” he said.

Anwar was speaking at the Malaysia-Turkmenistan Forum held earlier today in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was also present at the event.

Both leaders attended the forum following the signing of a Joint Statement and the exchange of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding at the Presidential Palace, where Berdimuhamedov also hosted an official reception for Anwar.

Anwar added that the scope of cooperation between the two countries has evolved beyond traditional areas such as investment, trade, and oil exploration.

He stressed that Malaysia and Turkmenistan are building a broader partnership founded on mutual trust, knowledge-sharing, and long-term development objectives, underscoring the willingness of both sides to work hand in hand in advancing common interests.

The Prime Minister said the agreements signed represent another important milestone in deepening bilateral relations and expanding strategic collaboration between the two countries.

Anwar concluded his two-day official visit to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and is now en route back to Malaysia.
