The Cabinet has chosen ‘Malaysiaku Berdaulat : Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku’ as this year’s theme for the 56th Independence Day.

The more unification oriented theme with patriotism and unity was selected as a reminder to the Malaysians the importance of uniting together in protecting the country as well as creating awareness of affection and love for the country.

In line with this theme approach, the concept of this year's celebration will be more focused on the elements of unity, patriotism, sovereignty and national security.

The Lahad Datu and Semporna incidents are considered as the best lessons in improving the core in the military.

According Ministry of Communications and Multimedia spokesperson, a 10 days contest was held to find the best logo for this year’s Independence Day and it was won by Noor Hishammuddin Omar.

In conjunction with the 56th Independence Day celebration, several events will be held in celebrating this glorious day such as Majlis Pelancaran Kibar Jalur Gemilang on August 16 in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Sambutan Ambang Merdeka on August 30 Ogos at Putrajaya Maritime centre and the 56th Independece Day Parade on August 31.

Additionally, in conjunction with the Malaysia’s 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration, Sabah and Sarawak will also take part in celebrating the event with the Boats Float Event on September 15 at the Sarawak River waterfront and the celebration on September 16, at Padang Merdeka, Kuching, where the launch of a special coin is expected to be held in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebration.

The 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration will also be held at Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, where it will enlivened by the participation of all the ethnic groups in Sabah, which consists of 35 races and ethnic groups.
