The Malaysian Ambassador to Switzerland, Datuk Mohd Zulkephli Mohd Noor, today died in Berne, Switzerland due to liver cancer. He was 57.
The Foreign Ministry, in extending its condolences in a statement today, said he died at 6.38am local time.
"The Embassy of Malaysia in Berne, with the assistance of Permanent Mission of Malaysia in Geneva, is in the process of bringing the body back to Malaysia," the statement said.
Mohd Zulkephli had started his service as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer in 1984. Prior to being appointed as Ambassador of Malaysia to Switzerland, he was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkmenistan since July 2012.
He was also the Ambassador of Malaysia to Libya from 2009 to 2011 during which he was directly involved in the evacuation exercise of Malaysians back home from Libya.
Mohd Zulkephli had also served at several Malaysian Missions abroad such as the Consulate General of Malaysia in Los Angeles and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
He was survived by his wife, Datin Anna Amalina Imam Baweh and five children.
