The 'Jalur Gemilang' Malaysian flag is to be hoisted on the Pulau Bidong seabed in a rare attempt by the Terengganu government.
The attempt will be made on National Day on Aug 31 by the secretariat of Visit Terengganu Year (TMT) 2013 in collaboration with Coral Malaysia, a coral reef conservation society.
TMT secretariat head Ahmad Fathil Abd Ghani said the 'Jalur Gemilang' would be hoisted on land and on the seabed during the three-day programme from Aug 30, which would also incorporate the Aidilfitri celebration.
Other activities would include cleaning the beaches and sea and a forum, he told reporters at the Resorts World Kijal in conjunction with the closing of the PGM Masters 2013.
"The programme is aimed at celebrating National day with appreciationfor and conserving treasures of the sea," he said.
He said Coral Malaysia introduced the Merdeka Dive programme in Terengganu and created two records in the Malaysia Book of Records, namely the 'First Underwater Jalur Gemilang Raising Event' and the 'First Underwater Jalur Gemilang Colouring Event'.
