A Malaysian man was shot dead early today, while riding a motorcycle to a hotel in Hatyai town.

Mohd Nizam Ahmad Basra, 28, from Penang died on the spot in the 3.30am incident.

He sustained gunshot wounds in the chest and back.

According to Hatyai police deputy chief, Pol Col Khittichai Sankha-thavorn, the gunman had used a 9mm pistol to attack Mohd Nizam whose body was found on the Phadungpakdee Road here.

The police found two 9mm bullet casings at the scene, he told reporters.

Khittichai said the police would study footage from closed-circuit television cameras installed at nearby locations to facilitate investigations.

He said the body was sent to the Hatyai Hospital.
