"The Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta is monitoring the situation closely," it said in a statement today.
The Malaysian citizens residing and travelling to Jakarta have also been advised to be extra vigilant and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities there.

Militants launched a gun and bomb assault killing at least six people in the centre of Jakarta today, in an attack that followed a threat by Daish fighters to put the country in their "spotlight".
Police said they suspected a suicide bomber was responsible for at least one of the blasts and up to 14 militant gunmen were involved in the attack, Metro TV reported.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo had cut short a trip to central Java today following the attack in Jakarta.
He also urged Indonesians not to speculate over who was behind the attacks that have killed at least six people.
