The security of the country is under control and therefore, the people should not be unduly worried of terrorist threats, says Bukit Aman Special Branch deputy director Datuk Mohd Sufian Md Makinuddin.

He said the police conducted surveillance and monitored the situation on a regular basis to check whatever terrorist threat.

"Everything is under control but we are asking those who have information or see any suspicious activity to alert the police immediately. We will try to curb such incidents (terrorism)," he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the International Industry Sector Security Seminar at Universiti Sains Malaysia here.

Penang police deputy chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan officiated the closing ceremony.

Last Thursday, the United States Embassy and Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur issued a travel advisory on the possibility of terrorist attacks in Jalan Alor near Bukit Bintang and surrounding areas.

Subsequently, on the same day, the police detained three people, including an Indonesian and Syrian to facilitate investigations.
