Malaysians in typhoon affected areas reported safe
All Malaysians in the areas affected by super typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines are reported safe.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Monday night said the Malaysian Embassy in Manila and Consulate-General of Malaysia in Davao City have been communicating and cooperating with the Philippine authorities to ensure safety and well-being of Malaysians in the affected areas.
"The government of Malaysia conveys its condolences to the government of the Republic of Philippines and the bereaved families that have lost their loved ones in the devastating typhoon Haiyan that has ravaged parts of central Philippines," it said.
The statement said a military medical team as well as a Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) unit had been despatched to offer humanitarian assistance to the typhoon's victims while Kelab Putera 1Malaysia was ready to deliver food, medical and other aid.
It is believed that as many as 10,000 people died in a single city due to the world's most powerful typhoon that hit the Philippines two days ago.
