Malaysia's COVID-19 death toll passes 36,000 mark

KUALA LUMPUR: As of midnight Thursday, Malaysia recorded a total of 4,413 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the overall total to 4,697,213.
Based on data from the COVIDNOW portal, there were 4,407 cases consisting of local transmissions, with six new imported cases.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), there were 3,394 new recoveries reported, which brings the total number of those recovered and discharged to 4,613,676.
Currently there are 47,534 active cases, with 52 patients admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 32 of them in need of breathing assistance.
The country's death toll has reached 36,003, with another eight COVID-related deaths reported yesterday.
Malaysia has administered a total of 10,595 COVID-vaccine doses on Thursday, with 86 percent of the nation having received at least one dose.
Meanwhile, about 84.1 per cent are fully inoculated, while 49.6 per cent have received their first booster and 1.1 per cent have received the second booster jab.
