Man and three-year-old son drowned during family outing
A family outing turned into a tragedy when two of them died when the boat there were sailing in with three other family members was hit by strong winds in Sungai Telok Mengkuang near here on Sunday.
Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Nordin Manan said the incident occurred about 6.40pm when the boat tilted, causing three-year-old Muhammad Shammirul Hisham to fall into the river.
His father, Hisham Hizir, 42, jumped into the river to save his son, but both disappeared, he said.
Following which, a search and rescue team was mounted, where about half an hour later, the team found Hisham floating in the river, but he died on arrival at the Jalan Bandar Lama jetty.
Nordin said Muhammad Shammirul's body was found at 2.45pm Monday.
Meanwhile, Hisham's wife, Rohaya Mohd Yusuf, 37, said the incident happened very fast.
"The boat tilted and my husband jumped into the river to save our son, but both of them disappeared.
"I managed to calm myself an dialed 999 for help and then went back to the scene to look for my husband and son before the search and rescue team arrived," she said.
