Man arrested for insulting Sultan of Johor in Facebook posting

Police arrested a man for an alleged offensive Facebook posting against the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man was arrested at about 6.30pm Thursday at the compound of the Baling police station in Kedah.
"Johor police received a report today (Thursday) of an offensive posting against the Sultan of Johor on Facebook.
"Investigation papers were opened to trace the individual believed to be involved in posting the offensive remarks," he said in a statement.
Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said from quick action by Johor police in collaboration with the Kedah police Commercial Crime Investigation Department, the man was detained yesterday.
He said police also seized three mobile phones, three sim cards, five memory cards and a pendrive from the man while the case would be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Police therefore advised the public to not abuse the social media or be prepared to face stern action by the police. -- Bernama
