Man crushed to death by falling tree branch

A man was crushed to death after the van he was travelling in was hit by a falling tree branch.
The victim, in his 60s, has been identified as Pak Cik Khamis from Kampung Ayer Hangat, Langkawi.
Witnesses said, they heard a loud boom which could be heard up to the Kuah Jetty area, some 100 meters away, during the 12 noon incident.
Fire and Rescue department operation commander, Nor Mazlan Mohamed confirmed the incident and said eight firemen in three fire engines from the Persiaran Putra 1 and Langkawi stations were rushed to the scene of the incident after receiving a distress call.
The firemen were forced to cut away at the tree branch before being able to take out the victim who was pinned to his seat.
The other passengers managed to escape unscathed.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Langkawi Hospital for a post mortem.
