Man detained for allegedly slashing his own brother

Police have arrested a man believed to have slashed his own brother during a fight at Jalan Tanjung Bendahara, here last night.
The 48-year old suspect was arrested immediately after being discharged from Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) after receiving treatment due to an injury on his left arm.
Kota Setar police chief ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said, the suspect was brought to the Kota Setar Police Headquarters lock-up.
“His urine test shows positive result for methamphetamine. As for the victim, the test will be conducted after his condition is more stable.
“We will also refer to the hospital for confirmation because based on the actions and injuries suffered by the brother, we believe the suspect may have mental problems,” he told a press conference here, today.
He added, the suspect will be remanded for 7 days starting today, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Mohd Rozi said the suspect’s brother, currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of HSB, is in stable condition.
The motive of the attack has yet to be identified and the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for using weapon to cause injury.
In the event at 12 noon yesterday, the suspect allegedly attacked the brother because of a misunderstanding between them.
The victim sustained serious injuries in the abdomen and chest due to punctures from sharp objects and a broken hand.
