A suspect had been arrested following the slashing incident involving the son of a former Pasir Puteh Member of Parliament.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the suspect, in his late 20s, was arrested in a housing area in Gombak at 3am today.
“We are still on the lookout for the other suspects and we are not ruling out the possibility that the case could be related to debt or revenge," said Mohmad Salleh.
He added the victim Wan Mohd Faizal, 24, who is the son of Datuk Wan Mohd Najib Wan Mohamad, is recovering from his injuries.
Wan Mohd Faizal was walking alone along the a row of shophouses in Section 6, Wangsa Maju when he was attacked by three parang wielding assailants at 10.30am on Sunday.
The victim sustained injuries on his head, hands and back during the attack. He tried to escape but later collapsed in front of a shop and the suspects escaped.
In a separate case, Mohmad said the police have not obtained new leads revolving the murder of a taxi driver in the city centre and urged those with information to contact the police.
The part-time cabbie was found murdered with 16 stab wounds and his body partially burnt in his rented taxi at Jalan Tun HS Lee on Sunday.
Mahmud was met at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters after attending the conferment of ranks and handing over of duties to the Kuala Lumpur Public Order Department Head this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Operations Staff Officer DSP Jamaludin Hussin, who is acting Kuala Lumpur Public Order Department Head, handed over his duty to Brickfields police chief SAC Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, who has been appointed Kuala Lumpur Public Order Department Head.
