Police have detained a man suspected of posting an offensive statement against Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim in the social media.
Johor district police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the suspect aged 48 was detained following a police report lodged at 10am yesterday.
He said police intercepted the man at Proton Holdings Bhd, Taman Perindustrian HICOM, Batu Tiga near Shah Alam, around 5pm.
"Police seized two mobile phones with sim cards believed to have been used to upload the statement," he said in a media statement here today.
The case is being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or one year's jail or both, on conviction.
