Man detained for posting offensive remarks about police
Police said the 34-year-old suspect was detained in Mata Ayer, Perlis at 4.45pm yesterday with the assistance of the Perlis police contingent.
Police yesterday detained a man believed to have uploaded offensive remarks against police in his Facebook posting.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 34-year-old suspect was detained in Mata Ayer, Perlis at 4.45pm yesterday with the assistance of the Perlis police contingent.
"At 1.30pm yesterday, Johor police had received a report about the offensive posting on Facebook. Following the report, an investigation was carried out to track down the suspect," he said in a statement today.
He said police would carry out investigations under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Police would not compromise such acts by individuals on social media, he said.
"All individuals using the social media must avoid uploading insensitive issues or any matters deemed offensive," he said.
