A brazen shooting incident at a commercial area near Jalan Genting Kelang here this afternoon shocked unsuspecting members of the public who witnessed the crime.
Several photos and videos obtained by Astro AWANI showed a large crowd surrounding a car at a traffic junction near Setapak Central.
The images show a dark grey Honda Accord car riddled with bullet holes in the left side windows – seven in the front window and five holes in the back window.
A CCTV recording showed the vehicle stopping at the traffic light. Shortly after, two motorcycles came up behind the car, with two riders on each motorbike. The pillion riders then got off and began firing at both sides of the vehicle. It is believed that more than 10 shots were fired.
The perpetrators then fled with their accomplices.
When contacted, KL CID chief SAC Rusdi Mat Isa confirmed the CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, KL police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh in a statement said a total 18 shots were fired, but only 16 of the 9mm shells were discovered at the scene of the crime – 12 on the left side of the car and four on the right.
He said the incident occurred at 3.35pm.
The driver of the sedan, a middle-aged Indian male, died in the incident.
Amar Singh said police are currently investigating the motive for the killing.
He called upon eyewitnesses to come forward to provide information.
