Johor Bahru South (JBS) District Police chief ACP Raub Selamat said police received a report from the public regarding the incident involving the 40-year-old victim which had since gone viral on social media.
He said the victim died at the scene, and further investigations were underway to identify individuals and witnesses as well as determine the exact cause of the incident.
"Police are also reviewing all closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement, adding that the victim's body was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital and the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
According to Raub, more details about the incident, including the number of shots fired at the victim, will be disclosed once the post-mortem report is obtained.
Meanwhile, he advised the public not to share videos of the incident on social media to avoid speculation or misunderstanding that could disrupt public order.
