Man found dead in Rompin among two new COVID-19 deaths

Malaysia has registered two more cases of COVID-19 deaths as of Wednesday afternoon.

Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it had brought the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia to 111 cases.

The 110th death (Case 6743) was a 30-year-old Malaysian citizen who was found dead in Rompin, Pahang.

"The COVID-19 sample test result obtained during the autopsy was positive on May 12, 2020. The case is under investigation by the Royal Malaysian Police and the Rompin Health Office.

“The cause of infection has not been identified and is still under investigation," he said in a press conference here on Wednesday.

The 111th death (Case 5195 case) was a 90-year-old Malaysian citizen with a history of hypertension and chronic respiratory disease.

"He was hospitalized at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital, Johor on April 16, 2020 and was pronounced dead on May 13, 2020 at 10.36 am," he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said another 58 COVID-19 positive cases have recovered and allowed to be discharged today, bringing the total number of fully recovered cases to 5,281 (77.9 per cent of total cases).

At the same time, 37 new cases were reported, of which 21 were non-Malaysian.

"Please also note, of the 37 new cases reported today, there were four import cases and 33 local transmission cases.

"Thus, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Malaysia is 6,779 cases and the number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 1,387 cases," he said.

To date, 16 COVID-19 positive cases were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, four cases require breathing assistance.
