Police have arrested a man who buried his six-year-old son killed in a fish bomb explosion in Semporna on Wednesday without making a police report.
Sabah Police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the 50-year-old man was held after members of the public informed the police of the boy’s death at a squatter house on water in Kampung Hidayat, Bum-Bum Island.
Police secured a court order to dig up the grave to enable a post-mortem to be conducted on the body, he told reporters.
The bomb exploded when a family of nine attempted to fish, he said, adding that four members were injured and had fled from their house to escape arrest.
“Initial reports indicated that the boy had hurled the bomb and it exploded too soon,” he said.
He also said that police believed that none of the family members had identity cards.
