A former finance manager who physically assaulted his wife and daughter was sentenced to a month in prison and fined RM1,500 by the Magistrate's Court here Friday.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid handed down the sentence on Hainizam Abu Samah, 43, after he pleaded guilty to two charges of injuring his daughter Nurnafiza Nadira, 20, and wife Norzaiha Zainudin, 44, by attacking them with his hands and feet.
On the first count, the father of five was fined RM1,500 in default three months imprisonment while for the second, he was sentenced to one month imprisonment starting from the date of arrest on July 25.
The offences were committed in a house in Gombak Setia, Wangsa Maju at 7.40 am on July 25.
According to the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, Hainizam's wife, who is the complainant, informed her husband that their daughter Nurnafiza Nadira had a fight with her boyfriend.
Hainizam then barged into his daughter's room and stomped her head several times causing bruises on her forehead. The complainant was also stomped on her face and chest when she tried to calm him down.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim in urging for an appropriate sentence said, the accused should be protecting his family instead of harming them.
In mitigation, Hainizam, who was not represented appealed for a light sentence on the grounds that he was the family's breadwinner and had lost his job.
