Man jailed six days, fined RM2,000 for swapping price tags

A home renovator was sentenced to six days' jail and fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate's Court here today after he pleaded guilty to cheating a supermarket by changing the products' actual price tags with other prices.

Magistrate Saifulakmal Said ordered Fong Wai Leong, 37, a widower with one child, to serve the jail sentences from the day of his arrest on Nov 11.

Fong was charged with cheating when he swapped the price tags of three electrical products, involving losses totaling RM1,151.

The three products were a Panasonic brand blender with its original price RM899 changed to RM104, a RM419 Khind Ashin brand rice cooker swapped to RM89 and an Elba slow cooker with original price RM127 was changed to RM101.

He was charged with committing the offence at a cashier counter of the Jaya Jusco Aeon Supermarket, Taman Maluri, Cheras, here, at 9.30pm on Nov 11, under Section 415 of the Penal Code.

Fong was represented by lawyer Muhammad Syazwan Mohd Salleh while ASP Zuraimi Kamarozzaman prosecuted.
