Incensed at not getting the 1Malaysia People''s Aid (BR1M), a man ran amok and hacked a car belonging to the Kampung Gong Duek, Hulu Besut Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) chairman with a parang yesterday evening.
The police were forced to use a M26C taser gun repeatedly but it was ineffective and the man escaped into the jungle.
Besut District Police chief, Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said, before the incident, the man appeared to be emotionally disturbed and threatened his parents, both in their 80s, for money.
"When efforts were made to calm him down, the suspect turned to the Gong Duek JKKK chairman and got angrier when his demand was not entertained," said Mohd Zamri to the media here today.
He said the suspect accused the chairman of not entertaining his request for BR1M prior to this and then hacked the back of the latter''s Proton Wira with a parang.
"Despite being Tasered four times and water-hosed by the Fire and Rescue Department team who came to assist the police, the suspect could not be overpowered and he ran into a jungle nearby. Effort to nab the man was stopped at Magrib prayers and continued today.
He said the suspect had three previous records including under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief.
