A man shot dead by a gunman in Cheras

A man who was accompanying his mother to his house in Taman Puchong Hartamas was shot dead by a gunman at a traffic light junction in Taman Billion, Cheras near here this morning.
The gunman, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, fired 10 shots in the direction of R. Karikaalan, 29, and his 60-year-old mother who were in a black Nissan Livina.
Karikaalan sustained two shots in the body while his mother, whose identity was witheld by the police, was shot in the right hand in the incident about 11.30am.
He died about 1pm, while on the way to the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia while his mother was warded at the same hospital.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the gunman who was armed with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, and the motorcycle rider wore dark full-face helmets at the time of the attack.
"Initial police investigations have revealed that Karikaalan was gunned down over his involvement in a fight with another group in Puchong recently," he said.
