A family quarrel, suspected to be over finance, resulted in a man stabbing to death his son at their house in Seri Alam near here last night, police said.
Seri Alam Police chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the 54-year-old man had stabbed his 23-year-old son once on the left side of the chest with a knife in the incident at about 7pm.
The man himself was wounded by two stab wounds, one on the left side of the chest and the other in the abdomen, he said in a statement today.
"The son died on the spot in the living room of the house," he said, adding that police took about an hour to coax the father, who had remained in the living room with his wife, into giving himself up.
Jokhiri said the police sent the father to the Sultan Ismail Hospital.
He said police suspected a misunderstanding over financial matters led to the quarrel and stabbing.
The man's wife, who works as a canteen helper at a factory, was the only one employed in the family, he said, adding that three younger siblings of the dead man were still schooling. - BERNAMA
