Man who slashed daughter to death, remanded

A father of five who slashed his seven-year-old daughter to death and severely injured two other daughters at the family home in Bandar Baru Bangi on Thursday, has been remanded.

The police obtained the week-long remand to detain the 44-year-old suspect until Thursday to facilite investigations.

The two injured children, aged 10 and 12, who sustained injuries on the neck and hands have been warded at the Kajang and Kuala Lumpur hospitals. They are said to be in a stable condition.

When contacted by Bernama, Selangor police deputy chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the remand order beginning Friday, to detain the suspect would end on Feb 6.

At the time of the man's frenzied attack on the three children, his other children - 15-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son - fled from the house in Section 4. The son telephoned the police.

The children's 42-year-old mother - a research officer at Telecoms Malaysia - was away at work in Cyberjaya at the time of the attack at 4.45pm.

The police tracked down the suspect, who has been unemployed over the last two years, at a nearby river bank behind a housing estate, more than an hour later.

The suspect, who had sustained a head injury, was found in a depressed condition, and wet as he had earlier fallen into the river.
