It will be mandatory for every police personnel to participate in group insurance from next year, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said the group insurance coverage concerned is seen as benefiting all employees and members of the police if something untoward happens to them.
Thus far, only about 74,325 of the more than 120,000 police personnel nationwide had participated in group insurance.
"Many of our personnel lose when they are not compensated after being involved in a mishap. So let us make it compulsory for all those uniformed personnel to participate in group insurance.
"The insurance is not burdensome as it costs only RM11 per month for a single unit and members can benefit from it," he told reporters after opening the 82nd annual general delegates meeting of the Koperasi Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) Berhad here today.
At the ceremony, Khalid, who is also the president of the co-operative announced a dividend of 12 per cent for the financial year 2016.
"After a long period of time, this is a high dividend rate and indicating that the co-operative is on the right track," he said.
Khalid said the financial records of the cooperative remains positive for 2016 whereby the profit after tax is RM46.97 million.
In addition, he said the police co-operative was ranked seventh among 100 best co-operatives in Malaysia for 2016 going up three rungs from 10th in 2015, while it is ranked fifth in the Federal Territory.
