Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) today suspends Tan Sri Annuar Musa from his duties as its chairman effective immediately.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting at the MARA headquarters here, co-chaired by Mara board members Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob and Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Abu Azam Md Yassin.
The emergency meeting was held following the issue of sponsorship for the Kelantan football team by Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and PMB.
Annuar's position as Chairman of the Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) was also suspended with immediate effect.
All his duties in the agency will be taken over by Dr Yusof.
"Firstly, the unanimous decision was reached during the meeting to give way to Mara's internal audit to carry out its investigation fully, especially on the related issues which have become viral.
"Secondly, since PMB is chaired by Annuar, who is a stakeholder, Mara unanimously suspends his position as its chairman until the investigation is completed," said Dr Yusof.
Yusof also said Mara does not know the extent of the investigations to be carried out, but expected it to be expedited so that the actual situation can be determined.
“Since Annuar is also Mara chairman and PMB is under Mara, we have to suspend him because of the link with PMB," he added. UniKL is a varsity which is wholly-owned by MARA
Dr Yusof said Annuar, who is former Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) president, has been informed about the suspension of his duties and he would abide by the decision.
