MAS To Get A Fashion Revamp With Farah Khan

We Malaysians who grew up flying with stewardesses donned in that familiar kebaya will soon be privy to a fashion change to take over at the mile-high space, that of a MAS aircraft. This wardrobe refresh will include the attire worn by all cabin crew, and extend to other aviation-related staff like those working on flight decks, airports and engineering departments.

Malaysian Airlines Berhad (MAB) announced that this strategic partnership with Malaysia-based fashion designer and power player, Datuk Seri Farah Khan, will reenergise the existing MAS uniforms epitomised by the iconic kebaya designed by Mara University of Technology’s School of Fashion in 1986. Featuring Malaysian flowers and Sarawak’s traditional motifs, the iconic MAS kebaya has become a source of great pride for generations, according to Malaysia Airlines chief commercial officer Paul Simmon.
Simmon also stated, “With this collaboration, we look forward to taking this a step further, creating a fashionable and functional new collection.”

Those in the fashion world familiar with the Farah Khan label know a Farah Khan piece is all about embellishment for her main line and wonderful prints for the resort collection. The big question on all our minds is will beading/sequins or exotic patterns take precedence on the upcoming MAS uniforms to be unveiled in the fourth quarter of 2016.
In the meantime, here are some of Farah Khan’s designs to fuel our imagination of how the timeless MAS kebaya uniform will be updated. Your guess is as good as ours.
