MAS latest airline to prohibit in-flight use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Malaysia Airlines Berhad is the latest airline operator to temporarily ban the use of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone on-board its flight.

The move came after reports of faulty batteries exploding in some units.

"The safety of passengers and crew is of Malaysia Airlines' utmost priority. Until further notice, passengers on all Malaysia Airlines' flights are not permitted to turn on or charge their Samsung Galaxy Note S7 on-board. These devices are also not permitted to be stowed in checked baggage.

"In addition, the airline will not be accepting cargo shipment of the said device," the airline said in a statement to Astro AWANI today, shortly before tweeting on the same matter.

Last week, the South Korean smartphone maker had suspended sales of the "phablet" and recalled 2.5 million units worldwide, after 35 cases were reported to have battery cell issues as of Sept 1.

Since then, other airlines which have issued similar warnings included Qantas, Virgin Australia, Etihad and Singapore Airlines.
