Malaysia Airlines System Employees Union (Maseu) has called for the resignation of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
The union has also called for MAS Director of Engineering, Azhari Dahlan, and MAS Director of Human Resources, Zaharah Zaid to “leave MAS with dignity”.
Maseu Executive Secretary, Mohd Jabbarullah Abd Kadir explained that the company has been losing money in the past three years and that the union wants it to stop.
“Maseu is of the opinion that Ahmad Jauhari has been given ample time to prove that he can lead MAS, it has been three years, and he has failed to bring MAS to profitability," he said.
MAS on Thursday announced its first-quarter net loss which increased to RM443.4 million from RM278.8 million a year ago.
He suggested that MAS should look at their internal talent who are experts in the aviation industry to lead the company.
“We have enough internal talent to bring the company back to profitability,” said Jabbarullah.
When asked by Astro AWANI if the union had anyone in mind to replace Jauhari, he refused to comment.
Maseu also urged the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to intervene in MAS’s intention to sell off part of its assets and thus closing the company for a few days.
“We request Dato’ Seri to intervene in the intention of MAS to close the company for a few days to sell off MRO and divide MAS into 18 sections,” it said.
The union has organized for a picket to be held on May 26 in front of MAS offices in Subang to protest the planned sale of the engineering segment of MAS.
Jabarullah expects between 200-500 MAS employees to attend the picket which will happen around 5pm.
The union said that MAS currently has around 19,500 employees worldwide which includes admin and operations of which 13,500 are Maseu members.
