'Mat Malaya', who was arrested by the police in Kundasang on June 1 for allegedly shooting and injuring an assistant mechanic at a vehicle air-conditioning repair shop here, has been placed under remand from June 2 to 9 to assist investigations.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman, however, said Mat Malaya's wife, aged 24, who was also arrested along with him during a police raid on a homestay in Kundasang, was released after her statement was recorded, as the Magistrate rejected the application for her remand.
"Mat Malaya tested positive for drugs and further investigations are ongoing," he said in a statement here Wednesday.
On May 6, Mat Malaya, 44, from Shah Alam, Selangor, had absconded after allegedly shooting the leg of the 36-year-old assistant mechanic at the repair shop on Jalan Tuaran.
In the incident, the suspect had fired three shots, and one of which hit the victim's right leg.
