PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu is mulling legal action against Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
This is in connection with the statement made by Zahid when he was addressing during the UMNO’s 67th General Assembly on Saturday.
“I didn’t personally hear what was said so I have to discuss with my lawyers first,” he told the party’s official mouthpiece, Harakah.
When contacted by Astro AWANI, Mat Sabu denied the accusation that he is part of the Syiah movement, insisting instead he follows the teachings of the Sunnah Wal Jamaah members.
“I am a member of the Sunnah Wal Jamaah, a Muslim that follows the teachings of Sunnah Wal Jamaah members,” he briefly told Astro AWANI.
Ahmad Zahid, who is an UMNO vice-president, during his speech also mentioned that JAKIM should take action against the PAS number two leader who was accused of being a Syiah follower.
The accusation that the PAS leader has links to the Syiah movement also garnered some attention after it was raised during the recent 13th General Election (GE-13).
However, PAS denied that any of its leaders are involved in the Syiah movement and criticised any parties that tried to link PAS to the teaching.
PAS explained that if any of its leaders have good relationships with the leader of Iran or any Islamic movements in West Asia like Hizbullah does not mean they follow the teachings of Syiah.
