PAS number two man, Mohamad Sabu will not be attending the party’s 59th muktamar (general assembly) today as he will have to attend a court case, filed by Election Commission deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar against him.
“My lawyer Hanipa Maidin had tried to ask for the case to be postponed as today is the muktamar’s opening but Wan Ahmad’s lawyer insisted that I come to court today,” he told Astro Awani.
Wan Ahmad had filed the suit against Mohamad or better known as Mat Sabu, on March 5 for defaming him in two articles published in the Friday edition of Harakah, 1-3 Feb 2013.
In the articles, Mat Sabu had said that Wan Ahmad is not trustworthy and had called for his resignation as the EC chairman.
Wan Ahmad alleged that his reputation was tarnished because of the two articles.
Apart from the court case, Mat Sabu will also be facing a challenge to defend his position from Kelantan deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah at the party polls today.
