Mat Sabu may not contest in GE13
Pas Deputy President Mohamad Sabu may not contest in the upcoming general election.
A source within the party revealed that Mohamad or popularly known as Mat Sabu is pondering the move as there are certain Pas leaders who are trying to prevent him from contesting in Kedah.
“A decision had been made earlier and ‘Abang Mat’ is scheduled to stand in the Pendang parliamentary seat."
But there appears to be a conspiracy among Pas leaders including senior party leaders who are trying to sabotage Abang Mat," the source told Astro Awani.
The source said there were certain quarters who do not want Mat Sabu to be in Parliament in the next term.
The source also revealed the attempt to oust Mat Sabu was part of a plan to elect a new deputy president iduring the party's election this year.
"Some of Mat Sabu ideals does not gel with that of certain Pas leaders and so now they have a
new 'horse' to challenge Mat. The old one (Nasharuddin Mat Isa) was booted out from the Syura Council, so they have to promote a new 'horse'," said the source.
When contacted by Astro Awani, Mat Sabu said he left his fate in the hands of the party.
“"I am a Pas member, I was taught to be loyal to the leader. I will accept what ever decision made by the party." he said.
Meanwhile, the party’s secretary-general, Datuk Mustafa Ali dismissed claims there are attempts to prevent Mat Sabu from contesting in the election.
“As the deputy president, he qualifies to stand in the election. It is Pas’ tradition to ensure that important people in the party get to contest in the right area, “ Mustafa said.
In 2008, Mat Sabu contested in Kuala Terengganu and was defeated by Barisan Nasional's Datuk Razali Ismail by a majority of 628 votes.
